I had already been threatened with court action by suggesting I would make this site before one word was published. It is the truth and my honest opinion. I do not believe anyone will be able to take action against me as truth is an absolute against defamation. I am sure it will be made public if action is taken and I personally promise to tell you, if I am legally allowed. This is to assure anyone reading this that it is accurate. I have not done this for any reason but that I walk around still shelled shocked from what I know about the private healthcare sector. I have emails, letters and reports that back up everything.
I believe the public should understand the limitations within the private sector before taking private medical insurance or using a private hospital. This is to protect private patients. I went to the largest private hospital group in the country and had been insured for almost 40 years (and still am) with the largest insurer in the world. I thought I was protected. I was not. I had no idea about the lack of regulation, accountability or liability before things went wrong. I thought using a large name meant I was safe and I believe many people think like I did.
If any of the information on this site is inaccurate then please inform me and I will change it. However, I do not believe anything here is inaccurate, it is just information private insurers and private hospitals do not want members or patients to know. I thought the private sector was better than the NHS. It is quicker, but if something goes wrong, then you will quickly find you will wish it was within the NHS. An NHS trust is liable for their doctors but the "For Profit" private sector is not. There is no other industry in this country where there is no liability. They get all of the upside with no accountability when something goes wrong. These are the people that we trust with our lives.
I have no financial gain from this site and it is purely to warn private patients. In fact, it has cost me money to be able to put this site up. This is all about protecting patients. If the companies involved take action and improve safety I will happily remove it.
Please note I am not legally qualified and cannot offer legal/medical/insurance advice about anything. I have learned the system by going through it. This site is to raise awareness of the glaring omissions in corporate liability and accountability within the private healthcare sector and to raise awareness of the House of Commons Select Committee Inquiry. I hope this makes patients and members more aware and ultimately makes AXA and the BMI improve safety. Big healthcare companies trade on their name and reputation, but they could be "Joe Bloggs" for all the protection it gives you. Whatever industry you are in, are you liable when something goes wrong? Why shouldn't they be? Unless companies are controlled by very good people with strong morals and integrity, where profits are not the first priority, a lack of liability can easily lead to a system that is not as safe as it could be.
Please note, although I blame the Consultant in my case, I am not allowed to mention that due to the ongoing situation. He is in no way absolved from anything based on anything stated or not stated here. However, since I have no action pending against AXA or the BMI (although both have breached my GDPR rights) I felt I must do something to try and protect the public, especially as many are becoming private patients because of the issues with the NHS. No one should ever have to go through what I have. This is all about protecting patients from the pitfalls I have suffered.
